The number of students studying Physics, Chemistry and Zoology in a college in the year 2003 were in the ratio 4 : 3 : 5 respectively.

If the number in these three disciplines increased by 50%, 25% and 10% respectively in the year 2004, then what was the new respective ratio?

The answer given is 24 : 15 : 22 but I'm not sure how to solve it.

Thanks in advance!

4 + 3 + 5 = 12

4 / 12 = 1 / 3

3 / 12 = 1 / 4

5 / 12

1 / 3 + 0.5 (1/3) = 1 / 2

1 / 4 + 0.25 (1 / 4) = 5 / 16

5 / 12 + 0.1 ( 5 / 12 ) = 11 / 24

LCM of 2, 16, and 24 is 48....

1 / 2 = 24 / 48

5 / 16 = 15 / 48

11 / 24 = 22 /48

so the new ratio is 24:15:22

Hope that helps =)

After the increase, the ratio becomes
150% of 4 : 125% of 3 : 110% of 5 =
1.5 * 4 : 1.25 * 3 : 1.1 * 5 =
6 : 3.75 : 5.5
If the answer must be in integers, then:
6 * 4 : 3.75 * 4 : 5.5 * 4 =
24 : 15 : 22
