A simple chemical cell can be set up by dipping two different metals in an electrolyte. The two metals are connected by an external wire.

我想問o係electrolyte之下,唔係兩個metals 都tends to lose electrons 架咩 ? ,
點解會有一個係gain左electrons?
咁lose 左electrons 之後點解會經個external wire 去到正極?

gain electron 果個唔係metal,係electrolyte入面的species,例如H+或metal ions

例如︰
electrodes: magnesium and copper
electrolyte: dilute sulphuric acid

Mg loses electrons to copper, but copper won't gain the electrons. The hydrogen ions in the electrolyte would gain electrons to become hydrogen gas.

Negative terminal: Mg --> Mg2+ + 2 e-
Positive terminal: 2H+ + 2e- --> H2

所以由此至終copper並無gain 到electrons
