The best player is not necessarily the one who hits the most home runs. While Babe Ruth was quite the home run hitter, he also lead the league in strikeouts. You must look at who is most beneficial to ones team.
I am assuming you mean right now, that person is clearly Albert Pujols. He has been in the top 5 in home runs, rbi's, and average for the past decade and he plays a gold glove first base. Has two world series appearances in the past decade also with one ring. If you are talking about pitching you would have to look at Tim Lincecum,Cliff Lee, Roy Halladay. Or relief pitcher Mariano Rivera.
IS means current....So if I had to give a best player award out, this would be simple. The BEST player in baseball is Albert Pujols. If he can continue his gold gloving, silver slugging, and MVPing ways, he has the potential to become the greatest of all time. This isnt a popularity contest, it is a stat contest. "Stats don't lie."-Dwight Howard
There's no one best all-around player in baseball. There's different categories, such as best pitcher, best defense at each position, and sub categories within best hitter such as best power hitter and best contact hitter.
That said, I think guys like Mariano Rivera, Roy Halladay, Felix Hernandez, Robinson Cano, Ichiro Suzuki, Albert Pujols, all deserve to be mentioned as best active players.
I am making recalls on who is the best player in MLB......Probably several best players.
On defense...
Ozzie Smith of the St. Louis Cardinals, and probably Jose Uribe, who was formerly with the Chicago White Sox, but now is playing for the Texas Rangers, who were the runner-up in the 2010 World Series and went to the World Series for the first time in team's history.
On offense...
Jose Canseco of the Oakland Athletics in the late 1990s, rising out of the depths of the A's golden years of 1972, 1973 and 1974 (World Series years for them). Yes, Reggie Jackson was also starting to become the best baseball player on offense with the A's in these years before he decided to go to the New York Yankees. And in the late 1970s, Mr. Jackson was definitely the best...not just home-run wise.
to be honest , there really is no "best player". its just an oppinion.
nowdays - albert pujols( i cant think of anybody better overall)
silver era- hank aaron ( most home runs all time)
golden era-ty cobb( never see anybody hit close to 420 again
