(一)What is the observations adding dilute nitric acid followed by silver nitrate solution ?
1. Sodium carbonate ---> no reaction
2. Sodium chloride ----> white ppt. formed
3. Sodium sulphate ---> no reaction
4. Common salt from sea water ---> white ppt. formed

acidified silver nitrate solution can test for chloride ions

(二)Besides sodium, suggest another species that makes up the common salt from sea water.Explain your answer.
Chlorine, many salts in sea water is chlorides, about 55%.

(三) Besides sodium, common salt from sae water contains___chlorine__.

(五) Suggest tests for a solid sample of potassium chloride.

Carry out flame test, it should give a lilac flame
Dissolve the sample in water and add acidifed silver nitrate solution to the solution, white ppt. should formed
