A) because the Yankees have enough money in reserves to afford Jeter's ridiculously expensive contract, and I think they really want him to retire as a Yankee.
a) YES because Nobody else wants him he belongs to the yankees he means the world to them he can not go elsewhere because Yankee Fans will not show up to their games He leaves them behind.

He's still a good player, but if he continues the way he did this season, he's going to be more of an icon that people want to see rather than a productive hitter.
