There are two ways looking at it, in the present context.
Average health is on down turn and incurable diseases are advancing more rapidly.so, health expenses have been drastically up.
So many pleasures of life around, one wants to have more and more money to enjoy them all.

conclusively, earn more and more but enjoy life and let the health be in fate's hand.

The answer that Gandhi gave is one that concerns one's spirit. For Gandhi this comprises REALITY but it is not so easy in practice. He needed very little material wealth but like all of us even he needed something to eat, wear, to find shelter and comfort.

Unfortunately for the Gandhian philosophy there is a matrial need to have something with which to live by and often the wealth of it must be expressed in terms of money. Having some money allows us to spend it on goods that we partly consume or that we use for a long time before they need replacement. So it is necessary to have a money income and some money saved for spending as well good health and a happy spirit.
