Congratulatory Message
On behalf of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (TDC), I would like to
extend out congratulations to the Japan Society of Hong Kong on its 45th anniversary.
Japan and Hong Kong have close economic ties that go back for decades. Japan
is now the third largest trading partner of Hong Kong with total trade between the two
places valued at more than HK$388 billion in 2006 and rising.
I am delighted to see an increasing number of Japanese companies signing on to
the Hong Kong business platform in the past years. At the last count, more than 700
Japanese firms have chosen Hong Kong as the base for their regional operations to
penetrate markets in the Chinese mainland and the wider Asia-Pacific region. In
particular, Japanese companies are taking advantage of the Hong Kong-Pearl River
Delta combination to lower product costs, manage risk and maximise returns in
China.
As the international marketing arm of Hong Kong, the TDC welcomes the
presence of Japanese firms and they can enjoy the same services, global contacts and
knowledge of the TDC just as other companies do because when in Hong Kong,
Japanese companies are “one of us”.
The Japan Society of Hong Kong is to be congratulated for its tremendous
contribution in promoting mutual understanding and cultural appreciation between
Japanese and Hong Kong people. The Society has been a catalyst for closer
partnership and friendship between the two places. I wish you continuing success in
this important mission.
Mr. Jack So
Chairman, Hong Kong Trade Development Council
