The owner has to tell you if the title is salvaged. If they don't then you can sue for invalid title transfer.

If you have doubts then pay to have a mechanic inspect it or for a Carfax.

All states are different. Some states a salvage title is a different color. The older Colorado title just had a small letter s written in the left hand corner. Some say right on the front of the title. What state and I can look it up. Make the seller pay for a vehicle history report, or say i will pay this amount minus the history report charge.
