Is there an anti-bully law in Tennessee?

My son is bullied, not at school, but at home. My son is 7 years old. The bully is 8. We've brought it to the parents' attention several times but nothing has changed. Is there any sort of legal action I can take to influence the parents to take action against their children's bullying?

Alright, to avoid people thinking I would let my own kids hurt each other, my son lives with my wife and I. he is our son, not somebody else's. He goes into the yard to play. We live in an apartment complex and the neighboring kids bully him. They make fun of him for being white. They hit him, kick him, push him, hit him with sticks and throw things at them. It is 3 to 4 children all about 8 years old. I want it to stop. I have spoken to their parents but there has been no change in their behaviour.

It may be worth noting that at our last home there was a bully who ended up hitting my son in teh face with a stick. The resulting injury required stitches on his face and he almost lost an eye. I am not willing to let that happen again. I'd like to stop the bullying before injury results. The idea is to prevent an injury before it happens not to react to an injury.

This is a classic example of providing insufficient information (and apparently purposefully done so) to avoid receiving a proper answer. Whose home is it, is it the former spouse's. Who is the eight year old, a step-son? Is it really bullying or normal sibling rivalry. What is the mother doing about it or is there a real need to intervene. Are you being over protective and feeding into the allegations. Answer those questions and I will take time to respond.

Edit: The first step if to file a formal complaint (in writing) to the land lord or the corporation that owns it. You have a right to quiet enjoyment of the property as are your children, you have already spoken to the parents of the other children to no avail. It is now the landlord's responsibility to have a talk with those parents or go forward with the eviction. Racial taunting is not permitted, be it from white or blacks. Tell the land lord that either hours be allocated when your children are playing outdoors to you and the trouble makers so they are not out together. Or the parents be required to supervise and you guys take turns.

Read up on tenants rights of quiet enjoyment to property.

Edit: No prosecutor will pursue those charges (assault/battery), unless serious injury resulted, so I would not be eager to recommend a police report where kids of same ages are involved, though if there has been injury and you took pictures, a police report is appropriate to put pressure on the parents (in addition to complaints to the land lord), there may also be counter claims if you take that approach.

have you called the police...most states don't have 'bullying' laws...try a law suit...you can always threaten a law suit and in most cases thats all you need to do, threaten...calling the cops will generate a report and it will make the law suit better for YOUR side.

The term is assault and battery.
