1. For secondry school the physics of lightning is just a very simple explanation how the distribution of + charge & - charge in the cloud , as the accumulation of negative charges on the lower part of the cloud getting more & more , the potential getting bigger , finally electrify the air molecules arround so set up the flow of electrons pass through . The result is lighting releasing huge amount of energy making the expansion of the air to form the thunder .
2. The article is very superfacial . Lightning is caused by a sudden release of electrical energy in a flash of current from the clouds to the ground( or sometimes between the clouds in air). This electrical energy is caused by the same kind of interactions that result in static electricity between you & your clothes , & lighting is just those little sparks you sometimes see when you touch a door knob on a dry day . Except much bigger ! Thunder is the sound made by lightning as it sends lots of energy inti that path through the air . Also a lightning actually get out energy as big as a small Atomic bomb !
