my cellphone also bought in HK. the simple way that u get the T-mobile SIM card is ... go to the T-mobile store, tell them "I would like to buy a prepaid SIM card kit". in the store, they need to register this SIM card for u, so they will ask u some personal info., also the SIM card kit will charge u for US$9.99 (plus NY tax) or more. if u can get from their website, (need to use credit card to buy and then will send to ur home), it costs only US$6.99 and u can register by yourself, so u will pay less.

After u register the SIM card, then go to walmart, Target ... department store to get the prepaid refill card, US$10 for 30 mins.... then ur cellphone can be used here. but the prepaid mins will be expired after 180 days, so u need to refill again and the leftover mins. will be rollover.

actually I can help u to setup or buy the SIM card for u and give u a customer services when u are staying in US. the service charge will be :

SIM card kit : US$6.99 x 8% tax = 7.55
Prepaid card : US$10 x 8% tax = 10.80
Customer Services within 8 months : US$11.65
TOTAL : US$30

go to local AT &T, ask for pre-paid sim card.

since you are stay in USA until next summer, i suggest you go get a METRO PCS phone, pay $40 a month with unlimited national call. no contact and credit check. by the time you go back to HK. just dump the phone.

New York City has 3 Chinatowns, even Brooklyn has so many local Chinese phone stores you can check out too. no need to go to old Chiatown.
