It's just been a tradition for them. I think one of the main points of it is for uniformity.

It's just one of their many tradtions - they have never worn names on their uniforms and it is not required. The Giants don't have names on the back of their home uniforms so it's not just the Yankees.

that is one of their traditions, plus they buy players from all the other teams so a lot of them come in mid season.

They should have the name of the steroids they are using on the back of their jersies.

Because after paying everybody's salaries, the Yankees can't afford to buy name tags...

Wow amazed no one got this exactly right yet. The Yankees dont wear there name on there backs because the Yankees are a team, its to promote team effort & not individuality.

Because they don't have to. The Red Sox and Giants don't wear names at home either.

Tradition. Same reason their only two uniforms are home white with pinstripes and road grays. No alternate jerseys, no alternate caps, nothing like that...

Because the New York Yankees uniforms have no name tag, but it only has numbers of the uniforms.

Tradition. Besides, most baseball fans know the great Yankees by their number alone, such as 2 and 42.
