we dont have the male dog no more but the first time she came into heat he kept trying to mount her but she kept growling at him and nipping him when he did.
is this normal for my dog when on heat?

my dog has come onto heat for her second time. Her first heat was fives months ago. Does this mean she will come into heat every five months? Also i know its supposed to be normal for her vagina to swell, but it looks really big! Ive always had male dogs and not so im not really familar with female dogs coming into heat yet. Also how long does heat last, because last time it seemed like my male dog was trying to mate with her for at leat 1-2months, and she bled for at least 2-3 weeks.

She will come in season every 6-12 months although if a b!tch nearby comes into season it could bring her in early. It is normal for her to swell up it is so that she can be mated. her season will last about 4 weeks, she will bleed for around 12-14 days and is after she stops bleeding that she will 'want' to be mated and will be at her most fertile for a few days. Once she has gone off she will tell the male dogs where to go!

No this does not mean she will come into heat every 5months its just irregular at the moment as she is still young and is only in her second heat! And yes it is normal for her vagina to swell(a lot) as i have experienced myself! Dont worry it is all perfectly normal!

Since this is her second season I gather that means she was late for a month last time. No she will only come into season twice a year.
