i love to play soccer, i even had a dream to become a pro soccer player, but then i realize that that's just a dream, it would never come true for me. But now i see a opportunity to join my high school soccer team, but the problem is i am afraid of everything, i am afraid that how to get along with those teammates, because only 1 of my friend is on the team, i want to join so badly but on the other hand i am very nervous and confuse about it. I have already wasted 3 years, i am a junior now, i should join it 3 years ago... i don't wanna to be regretful.. (the main reason why i am afraid of joining the team is because i came from other country and i don't speak english very well.. i am afraid that i can't get along with the teammates.) what do you guys think? or i hope you can give me some opinion to help me~~ thanks!!

hello,
u shouldnt be afraid go for it! im a senior and i play for my schools soccer team. the team is there to help you and motivate you. in my team most of our players are from Mexico and dont even speak english, but they know how to play really good so thats what counts. you will regret it if you dont because once your out of high school you will only have the oppurtunity to play in park clubs. go out there and try out and become part of the team trust me you wont regret it.

Yes play but dont be afraid of injury, injury is a part of sport, no matter sport you play you will get injured, it sucks but you cant live in fear my friend. Besides playing soccer is fun and is much more safer than rugby, baseball, and football so you wont get many injuries when playing

agree with maximo and jacob.

dont worry about language issues, to be honest, i use names and a few words, more like 'man-on' or 'turn' or something stupid like shoot. that was like me when i joined my new team, a lot of them have been on together for like 8 years together or more. i was nervous, but just do your best and work hard. just dont be super cocky or anything, like take pride in your skill but know that there is ALWAYS someone better than you.

coaches appreciate it when you work hard and try hard. talk to them after to see if there is anything you can improve on.

once on the team, dont be afraid to get to know people. its a team sport, they need to take the time to get to know you. that's how a team functions. just work hard and play hard and the team will accept you, thats what i did.

good luck in your tryouts! you can do it. be like me, just go out there and freak out till the playing actually starts! ;)

I've played many different high school sports and two of them were sports I have never played before. One of those sports I did was wrestling I didn't know anyone on the team or anything about the sport I was a freshmen and my football coach convinced me to do it. I said all that to say this when you join the team at first you will feel the way you do BUT as to season goes on the team turns into a type of family and half way threw the season you gain many friends; alot in the same boat as you try it you've got nothing to lose. If its your dream and you want it, you work the hardest in practice, nothing will stop you.

Note: I finished 3rd in district that year.
