Let a be the number of pairs sports shoes sold and b be the number of pairs slippers sold.
40a+25b=1020------------(1)
a+b=30-----------------------(2)

From (2):
a=30-b

Sub a into (1):
40(30-b)+25b=1020
b=12

Sub b into (2):
a+12=30
a=18

Slippers = 12 pairs

(a) (12/30)*1020
=$408
The total profit from selling the slippers are $408.

(b) x=number of pairs of sports shoes
a=number of pairs of sports shoes
a=x a=18 x=18

The value of x is 18.
