If the mobile phone could not be used by another SIM other than the 3UK one, then it is a SIM lock imposed by the network operator (i.e. 3UK) because you have joined a mobile plan and got subsidy on the phone, you need to go back to 3UK and ask for an unlock (provided you have seen through your contract). Or else find one of those mobile shops who can crack the password for you.

If SIM card is locked because you forgot the password that you previously set on your phone, you have to call up your service provider, i.e. 3UK and ask for a PUK (PIN unlock key). Each SIM comes with a PUK and the operator keeps the record of it.
