Solve these equations for 0 < x < 360


1. tan ( 60 - x ) = tan ( x -45 )

2. sin ( x + 90 ) = tan x


show all steps, 2.5 marks for each!

Solve these equations for 0<x<360度
1. Tan (60度-x)=Tan(x-45度)
Sol
Set y=60度-x
x=60度-y
x-45度=15度-y
Tany=Tan(15度-y)
y=180n度+(15度-y)度
2y=180n度+15度
y=90n度+7.5度
0<x<360度
0<60度-y<360度
-360度<y-60度<0度
-300度<y<60度
-300度<90n度+7.5度<60度
-300.75度<90n度<52.5度
-3.34<n<0.58
-3<=n<=0
(1) n=-3
y=-270度+7.5度=-262.5度
x=60度+262.5度=322.5度
(2) n=-2
y=-180度+7.5度=-172.5度
x=60度+172.5度=232.5度
(3) n=-1
y=-90度+7.5度=-82.5度
x=60度+82.5度=142.5度
(4) n=0
y=7.5度
x=60度-7.5度=52.5度
So
x=52.5度or 142.5度 or 232.5度 or 322.5度

2. Sin(x+90度)=Tanx
Sol
Sin(x+90度)=Tanx
Cosx=Sinx/Cosx
Cos^2 x=Sinx
1-Sin^2 x=Sinx
Sin^2 x+Sinx-1=0
Sinx=(-1+√5)/2 負不合
x=38.172度 or x=141.828度

The ans for the 2nd ans is correct, but is there any other methods in doing??

1.

tan( 60-x ) = tan ( x-45 )
60-x = x-45 or 60-x = 180+x-45
2x = 105 or 2x = -75
x = 52.5 deg. or 2x = 285
x = 52.5 deg. or x = 142.5 deg.

2.

sin ( x+90) = tan x
cos x sin ( x+90 ) = sin x
cos x cos x = sin x
cos^2 x = sin x
1 - sin^2 x = sin x
sin^2 x - sin x + 1 = 0
there're no real solution
