question for Christians that believe in evolution?

I have read a couple times on here where people say that they are christian but the believe in evolution. To me that doesnt make any sense. Should you believe in the the story of Adam and Eve? Are you just picking out the surtain stories out of the Bible that you want to believe? I guess my question is, how can you say that you are christian and not believe the story of Adam and Eve? I mean since the Bible is the "word of God" how do you go against.

No I am not an atheist troll ( just an atheist), this is a serious question, but I was just wondering how people can justify their thinking. Thanks

Evolutionary scientists mock creation and/or intelligent design as unscientific and not worthy of scientific examination. In order for something to be considered a “science,” they argue, it must be able to be observed and tested; it must be “naturalistic.” Creation is by definition “supernatural.” God and the supernatural cannot be observed or tested (so the argument goes); therefore, creation and/or intelligent design cannot be considered science. Of course, neither can evolution be observed or tested, but that does not seem to be an issue with evolutionists. As a result, all data is filtered through the preconceived, presupposed, and pre-accepted theory of evolution, without alternate explanations being considered.

However, the origin of the universe and the origin of life cannot be tested or observed. Both creation and evolution are faith-based systems in regards to origins. Neither can be tested because we cannot go back billions (or thousands) of years to observe the origin of the universe or of life in the universe. Evolutionary scientists reject creation on grounds that would logically force them to also reject evolution as a scientific explanation of origins. Evolution, at least in regard to origins, does not fit the definition of “science” any more than creation does. Evolution is supposedly the only explanation of origins that can be tested; therefore, it is the only theory of origins that can be considered “scientific.” This is foolishness! Scientists who advocate evolution are rejecting a plausible theory of origins without even honestly examining its merits, because it does not fit their illogically narrow definition of “science.”

If creation is true, then there is a Creator to whom we are accountable. Evolution is an enabler for atheism. Evolution gives atheists a basis for explaining how life exists apart from a Creator God. Evolution denies the need for a God to be involved in the universe. Evolution is the “creation theory” for the religion of atheism. According to the Bible, the choice is clear. We can believe the Word of our omnipotent and omniscient God, or we can believe the illogically biased, “scientific” explanations of fools.

Not everyone takes Genesis literally. To many Christians the story of Adam and Eve is allegory, a story about separation from God and about human failings.

Not everyone is a fundamentalist literalist.

I never said I don't believe in the creation of Adam and Eve: species could have evolved.

I am a YEC and a fundamentalist Christian. You are right to say that being a Christian and believing in evolution does not make sense. Evolution clearly contradicts the Bible in almost every case. Whenever I hear Christians saying that God used evolution or something like that, I am convinced that they have never studied either the Bible or evolution.

Atheists and evolutionists may hate people like me, but I hope they at least appreciate our consistency. We don't try to compromise our doctrine to fit the ever-changing evolutionary teachings.

The god that would use evolution is not worth worshipping. He is cruel, uncaring, and capricious. He hates the weak and rewards the strong. Death is what this god uses get his creation ahead. That god is not the God of the Bible.

What appears in the Bible is not the only possible version of how life was created. Remember that there are a lot of stories in the Bible that are meant to teach a lesson. It would be impossible to take 100% of the Bible literally. It contradicts itself.

I think that many non-Christians believe that all Christians are alike in their belief structures. We're not.

Though I have to say that the theory of evolution is a little flawed as well, especially when you consider the Cambrian Explosion. I personally believe in a divine plan of evolution.

The Bible has to be taken literally at all, but if it's done, you have evolution or creationism, not both.
Then some leave the literal interpretation as dispensationalist theologians teach.

I don't believe in evolution but my friend does. She says she could accept it as a possibility because God created us in the image of him and through out the years we could of changed until we got to the point we didn't need to any more. I don't deny the bones obviously something was out there I just happen to think they died off maybe they were some sort of mutation. Who knows.

FIRST, I hope you are aware that not all Christians believe in "sola scriptura" or "bible alone" doctrine. Only about 1/3rd do, in fact. In some countries, they might be the majority, but worldwide, roughly 1.2billion of the estimated 2.0 billion Christians are Catholic.. and this means they do not believe in the Bible alone as their sole source of information and authority.

Secondly, The Bible is a book of faith and morals.. NOT history and science. The passage of Adam and Eve are told to teach a central point about faith and morals.. NOT exactly how we were created and got here in Chronological or Scientific terms. The key concepts are that man was in communion with God and threw his actions, broke this union and that sin drastically altered the world.

Thirdly, Evolution is not Atheistic. It does not remove God as the prime mover, the initiator, the one guiding evolution to a certain end. Therefore there is no inherent contradiction between Evolution and Theistic belief, per-se.
The term most Catholics use is "Theistic Evolution" to better describe their actual beliefs about the creation of life on this planet.

Fourth, The bible begins... "in the beginning" -- who's beginning? One can both believe that we descended from Adam and Eve, and that God also used natural processes to allow nature to adapt over time.
Either Adam and Eve, and therefore Mankind was a special creation, OR one can take a view that humanoids evolved over time, but at some point there were sentient homosapiens, from which the passage about Adam and Eve is derived from.

It does require a more allegorical viewpoint verses a more literal viewpoint of the Genesis account..but that does not render the word of God inaccurate or false. Recall that the bible is a book of faith and morals.. it's goal is to teach those 2 things. The Authors may not have known exactly HOW we came to be.. Adam and Eve was a story to teach some central principles... NOT tell the accurate, step by step origins of our Universe and us, as a species.

It is not cherry picking to say that the author couldn't have known how, but that he knew we fell from grace.. and Adam and Eve explained this to the early Israelites.

Lastly, the "word of God" does not mean what many non-Theists think it does. It does not mean it is literally penned by God, but it is given this title because of the truths it DOES contain when it comes to "faith and morals" and teaching us the nature of God and purpose of life.
It has this authority when interpreted correctly.

There can be no conflicts. There are different school of thoughts concerning evolution. Generally, micro-evolution is not in conflict with creationism.

On the other hand, there are people who call themselves Christian but do not believe in the Bible - I see that more as a problem for them as opposed to the religion. No offense to anyone, but that is like someone who claims to be health-conscious but smokes at the same time. We're all quite self-contradicting sometimes.

You're correct, when you say that it does not make sense.

If you are a Christian, but also believe in the theory of evolution. Do you also believe that Eve came from Adam's Rib? According to biblical scripture, God put Adam into a deep sleep, where he created woman from one of Adam's ribs.
