We have a 3.5 year old puggle who is an awesome dog. Two months ago she peed in the bed under the covers where my wife was sleeping. Changed sheets, cleaned let her out but than two nights ago did it again( with wife in the bed) and on my side when I was in the living room, than again tonight in like 4 spots right after I got out of the bed. She has never done anything like this before and dont understand why its starting now. I just went to night shift, and we have had some moderated stressors. Is she just acting out? H E L P

She is not happy, and has no respect for whom ever uses that bed. She needs to know that is your territory and she is NOT allowed there. Get her wee pads and a folded blanket to use for a bed. They are easy to wash and it is yours. You can not trust her until she knows that you are the pack leader/master. Put the wee pads and her bed/blanket in the bathroom. She gets put there any time she is not doing positive behavior. You have to have the assistance of ALL the other family members. The dog is NOT to be on your bed ever, especially when your wife is there alone. The dog has no respect for her. Your wife must always feed her at the same time in the same place and way twice a day.She is acting out and she needs to know that things change, but she has to still know that her place in the home is the same. You are the pack leader and wife is VIP.

She may just be acting out. It may be a medical problem.
For the time being, don't let your mutt sleep on the bed.

I'd get her in for a urinary evaluation, it could be she can't hold the urine in. NOT letting her on the bed till this is resolved is the best preventative right now. If only to protect the mattress. Ask the vet if there's a female alternative to the male pee pants on the market, she may be able to have the urine at least contained during the evening.

I would have her checked out. Dogs pee for many reasons, stress kidney and bladder infections & in pain.

Attention seeking --- She has had some unusual experience lately and she is showing you she is not entirely happy with things the way they are.

One needs to understand your way of life in order to tell you more. In the meantime you might want to pamper her a bit more when she does it in the right place. When she peed in your bed did you manage to catch her in the act? Even if you didn't, before you cleaned out the bed you should put her right there and say in a very serious voice NO. She knows it is not right but she needs to be reminded that you didn't like it at all.

I would also keep her away from the bed. Every times she goes near your bed you should say NO.

Pugs have a tendency to poop on the carpet or urinate on the pillow. It's a pug trait that's coming out in her. They are angry little dogs. I normally say that dogs don't try to take revenge but pugs truly do. My sister's adopted Boston terrier/ pug mutt will poop on her pillow whenever she changes shifts when she works.

Urinary incontinence is caused by many things. Some females will accidentally pee in their sleep because they are slowing down on the production of various hormones. Your vet will prescribe a drug like Proin for this.

However, your vet will also want to clear up any other issues your dog may be having, such as a urinary tract infection (redness/blood in her urine also would indicate a UTI). So be sure to bring in a fresh urine sample when you bring her in. The best way to do this is to walk her on a leash, and have a ladle handy. When she squats, put the ladle underneath her, and collect about a tablespoon or more of urine. Put this urine in some kind of plastic container, and put it in the fridge until you can go in to see the vet.

Your vet may also be concerned that she has diabetes or some kind of kidney issue, so they will probably want to rule out those factors as well. Since this happened in your bed, I am going to assume she was not fearful (some dogs accidentally pee when they get nervous or stressed). Along with that, some dogs pee when they seizure, however, they also tend to defecate and drool a lot too... Seizures aren't exactly subtle.

I hope this helps!

She could have an infection, vet time. In the meantime keep your MUTT off your bed. There is no such thing as a "puggle" You have a Pug and Beagle MIX!
