Why is my dog acting annoyed around my nephew?

I have a 7 month old rough collie puppy (named Iris) and she is the cutest, friendliest and most playful dog you'll ever meet. She's never shown any signs of aggression towards anyone before. She LOVES new people but tends to be shy around other dogs. My 5 year old nephew stays here on school holidays and this is the first time he's met her. For some reason, every time Iris is confronted with him, she barks at him continuously. She loves to bark, but it's usually a playful or alert bark. The way she barks at my nephew feels like a very annoyed bark. My nephew is an annoying kid, but he hasn't done anything to hurt her (at least, not that I've seen); is there any other reason why Iris could be so stressed?

ask your nephew if he has done anything that might have annoyed your dog. if he says he hasn't and you believe him then try to get the two of them doing fun things together such as going for walks, playing fetch, get him to give your dog treat and to feed her.

if she is still annoyed at him then it may be that she has just taken a dislike to him.

Dogs are an extremely good judge of character, the kid is annoying and not to be trusted and she is letting you know. She is also trying to keep him away from her, so she's barking at him to tell him to back off!

Listen to your dog, she's in your home, and she knows instinctively "good" people from "bad" people. There is a reason not to trust your nephew. Keep an eye on the kid when he stays with you.

She hasn't met many of this height in your house?

Jealous?

Just because your nephew hasn't hurt the dog, doesn't mean he hasn't made it uncomfortable.

Let's put it this way; if a person poked your arm constantly you'd be irritated and would like them to stop, though it probably isn't painful.

You'd better tell your nephew to stop.

He probably hrt or annoyed your dog. Get your nephew to give the dog some treats.

maybe because he is a male in a house of females. perhaps she thinks he is trying to take her position as pack leader

Maybe he annoyed your dog somehow. They tend to be somewhat unforgiving in these matters. If this isn't true, maybe your dog just senses that your nephew is annoying. If someone is an agressive state of mind, dogs sense this too and become nerves or defensive.

(at least, not that I've seen) Is A Very Good Statement To Make, Animals Can Sense When A Person Will Not Treat The Well, Animals That My Son Is Around , Even For The First Time, Stay Away From Him Because They Can Tell He Is Abusive. None Of My Other Children Are Like That. Trust Your Dogs Instincts.
