My 4 year old chihuahua won't eat, won't drink, his breathing sounds labored, he can't control his bladder and he cannot hold himself up or walk. He has some movement in his limbs, he weakly tries to scoot around on his side but really he's just laying there. I took him to a vet yesterday who said he was dehydrated and injected him with water, but today he got worse.

I force fed him a few teaspoons of wet food the vet gave me as well as force poured a little water down the side of his mouth but he seems to still be weak. All the responses I've searched are "rush to the vet, go to the vet, it's an emergency", etc but WHAT KIND OF EMERGENCY? WHAT KIND OF PROBLEM, WHAT WOULD BE THE CAUSE???
更新1:

...also how long does recovery from dehydration take? If dehydration is why he's so lethargic and can't walk, normally how long does it take before he starts to get better?

Get a syringe and feed him with glucose water. If you don't have a syringe then drop water into his mouth at regular intervals.

If the vet didn't say anything other than dehydration who are we to say anything else? If you are worried you should go for a second opinion elsewhere. 4-year old is too young to have a stroke though. His bladder control sounds like a serious problem.

Observe him closely and keep a journal of what you feed him with and what he does. Keep dripping glucose water for a few hours more and see how he copes. If no improvement another vet is the best choice.

You don't need to know what kind of emergency; it's the veterinarian who will make the diagnosis. The fact is, a dog that cannot eat, drink or stand is in dire straits and needs help as soon as possible. Just call the emergency vet and get him in there.

I doesn't matter what kind of emergency, that's for the vet to assess. Your dog is clearly ill and if his breathing is labored then he's in a rather critical condition.

From what you've said I would actually suspect that he's eaten something toxic but it could be anything and nobody on here is qualified to make that assessment, a vet needs to see your dog immediately and then they can decide what the best course of action is.

If it was dehydration alone then it should take less than an hour after the fluids were given before you start to see improvement, if there's no improvement or he's getting worse then it's not simply dehydration.

No one can diagnose you dog's problem over the Internet. Only a Vet actually examining the dog can do that. Don't go in saying I think this or that is wrong. Get to the Emergency Vet and just describe the symptoms. Let the professional do the diagnosing. Toy breeds can go downhill quickly. You have a very sick dog and need to get it to a Vet ASAP. Your pups life may depend on it.

I don't know what is wrong with your dog, but it definitely sounds like more than dehydration. One of my dogs is black and dehydrates easily in the heat and once she's even a little dehydrated refuses to drink, so we've done the severe dehydration thing a couple of times. By the time the "camel hump" from injecting fluids into the dog is gone they are usually feeling completely better.

I would definitely get your dog back to your vet (or another vet) ASAP!

I am very concerned that a vet gave u food, but sent u home without testing/ keeping your dog. Get him to another Vet, NOW. He must be seen for a proper diagnosis... it could be a matter of life & death ~ certainly not worth the risk of not seeking proper treatment for him. Your questions will be answered by taking him to a qualified veterinarian.

Why haven't you already taken him to a vet? Sounds like he has pancreatitis; he has all the symptoms...it could kill him. Do the right thing for your dog...ASAP...quit looking for home remedies...your dog deserves better and he's at your mercy. If there was a 24 hour hospital I'd take him tonight. Delay can be fatal. I've had two dogs with this problem in the last 5 months...it is NOT uncommon, but can be harder to treat the longer you wait. One of the things you have to be sure is to keep him hydrated. Both mine were hospitalized just so they Could give them IV's cause they couldn't eat or drink. What you do, do quickly, for the sake of your dog. It doesn't take a Chihuahua long to dehydrate anyway.

Just make sure you have around $800.00 for starters to begin all the tests and treatments. My Chihuahua had the same symptoms as you described. Took her to the Vet, he referred her to a specialist and they would not even look at her until we came up $800.00. Most Vets don't have payment plans and are not welling to set you up on a payment plans. Sad but true story!!

id say parvo.
either that or hes gotten into antifreeze.

itd be too late to induce emergency vomiting, and any vet is just gona put ivs in him and give him the care he needs but they may not be able to do anything more than u can, except give him comfort, cuz, as obvious, whatevers got him, its almost too late.

he wont eat cuz of either pain, fear/anxiety/depression,
and he wont drink for the same.
labored breathing is cuz he could either be shutting down or scared.

this could easily be a neurological problem,
and just as easily be a poison or a sickness thats got him (likely parvo or maybe even distemper.) whatever it is, its severe.
