diarrhea after a bland diet?

I have a 5 month old lab that i was feeding nutro natural choice to, he got really bad mucus diarrhea so the vet recommended feeding him a bland diet of boiled chicken and rice. I fed that to him for three days until it got better and i also decided to change his dog food to Purina pro plan under the assumption that the nutro may have been too rich for him. I have started to mix the Purina into his bland diet to get him back onto dog food but now his stool went from firm to the consistency of soft serve what should I do...could he have a sensitive stomach or what should i do because im worried that he may not be getting all the nutrients he needs from eating chicken and rice...
更新1:

I had him checked for worms and it was negative...hes been on the chicken and rice for almost two weeks because at the slightest bit of dog food he gets diarrhea or lost stool...i have been mixing it in as slow as possible like 3/4 chicken and rice 1/4 dog food he was fine when it was like that but when i went to a half and half mixture last night he got soft stool tonight

If boiled chicken and rice did the trick you might as well stay on it for a while longer.

Since the puppy is already 5 months old and a big breed it is easier to deal with. I gather he is not ready for the grease in dry dog food yet. Give him glucose in his water too.

I don't think it is going to hurt him at all to stay on chicken and rice for a week. You might want to start mixing in dry food VERY gradually after you are sure that he is stable.

What went wrong was that he was barely stable and you switched him to yet another set of ingredients that his week digestive system didn't know.

Get well soon puppy!

Try a brand of food with fewer ingredients.. I reccommend California Natural.

A little canned pumpkin can also help firm up stools.

My Crested gets soft-serve like stools on some brands, but nice firm stools on other brands. Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul gave him softer stools.

Another brand you may want to try, I found it at petsmart last week.

Nature's Recipe Grain Free -easy to digest- with Salmon Sweet Potato and Pumpkin.

When I was a kid we had a dog that could only eat the "gravy" foods.. Purina Grrravy or Gravy Train. Anything else would cause diarreah. If you find that to be the case, a healthier version of those types of foods is Merrick's (we didnt know that brand existed when we had her, only knew of typical grocery-store brands)

Neither Nutro nor Purina Pro Plan are good foods. There are many better foods for about the same cost: Wellness, Blue Buffalo, Castor & Pollux, AvoDerm, Pinnacle, Dogswell, Solid Gold, Merrick, Taste of the Wild. The 75 25 rule is for the average dog. Some dogs have to go even slower in the transition. Try again slower with one of the better foods. It will be well worth the effort. Also add a spoonful of plain yogurt at each feeding. That helps with the digestion.

sometimes dogs get diarrhea after changing food to quickly after they get used to one food and make asudden change their stomache make not handle it so i suggest change it by adding it slowly to their normal food day day by day then after a week or so start on the regular food or your dog should change to a more natural food

could be too much switching around with food....did you get a stool check done at the vets for worms?

add: ok no he's not getting enough nutrients. he's lacking in calcium for one. feed him dog food even if he has diarrhea. supplement with SLIPPERY ELM you can get it at any drug or grocery store just about. it's a pill that will soothe his GI tract inflammation and hopefully help the diarrhea.

imho, get another stool check since they aren't 100% accurate. if it's still negative, put him on metronidazole anyway. (this is what I'd do)

or you can try a homecooked or raw food diet as long as it's balanced.

however, his system may just need more time to stay on one dog food without switching. i would not stick with purina, but switch to wellness like Wellness simple solutions venison.

gravy foods are high in sugar, so i don't see how that would help diarrhea. sorry.

Gotta agree with Bare Nekkid-California Natural would be the food to use. Nutro has a long reputation for upsetting dogs' digestive systems.
