How can I get a dog to stop peeing from excitement?

Other than just not being quite so exciting, of course?
=)

We thought he would grow out of it, but he still pees (usually on our feet) whenever someone comes in, or pees all over the floor after he comes inside from a walk.
He does not stop or raise his leg, so I doubt it is marking. He just runs and pees, even if he just had the opportunity to pee outside.

It's never a lot of pee, usually just a few drops... but enough to have to wipe up afterwords. He also pees when you pick him up, but I'm guess that he can't help himself. (small dog, small tummy + big hand pressing bladder)

We've been to the vet (this has been going on for a while) and he has nothing physically wrong with him. He's just a very jumpy and excitable little guy.

When you come in/bring him in, completely ignore him. Don't talk to him until he calms down, at most give him a calm pat on the head. If you can't stop yourself from talking to him, avoid using a high-pitched voice. If he pees anyway, don't make a big fuss. Just get him outside ASAP, and clean up before you bring him back in. Mainly remember that the more excited you act to see him, the more excited he will get, and the more likely he will pee on the floor.

When you first come in, you need to just ignore him. Walk around the house until he calms down and then say a casual "hi" and give him a little pet, but don't over do it. I think he is peeing form excitement when you pick him up, too, not from squeezing his bladder. You just need to do whatever you can to keep him calm.

There are some issues you're able to do right here. If obtainable, have your dogs constrained to a minimum of one or 2 rooms once you're no longer in the abode, so as that as quickly as you return in, you're no longer greeting him precise away. determine on those rooms and close him in them once you're abode for an hour a night, strolling out and in of the room(s) on occasion pretending to do issues yet completely ignoring the dogs. do no longer even look into him, no longer to show communicate to him or touch him. purely fake he isn't there. This has 2 advantages. One is to permit the dogs to learn how to be on my own and comfortable, no longer having to be with you each and all the time. Secondly, he will learn that doesn't might desire to react once you return and circulate. Have all of us in the abode try this with him in the evenings and the comparable in case you have been out in the day. come back, do no longer circulate quickly to him. as a replace, are available, placed your issues down, take your coat off and don't circulate close to his room. once you hear that he has settled down, circulate in, enable him quickly out the backyard and whilst he's done his corporation, enable him back in and fuss him in basic terms whilst he has calmed down. he will quickly learn and stable success with it.

The Golden Retriever in this neighbourhood does that too. I guess it is the character of the dog or the way he is kept that makes me too excited when something happens.

Do you walk him regularly? Do you praise him when he does it at the right spots? Can you command him to sit? My Cocker used to get all excited as soon as I showed signs of feeding him. I had him sit and wait until I count to ten before he could come near his bowl.

I am afraid you have to figure out a way to show him right from wrong in a calm but stern way. If you worry him or scared him he will be totally confused.

If he is not quite 5 months old then he doesnt' have good bladder control.

You should take him to the vet to rule out a UTI.

It's submissive peeing. They have what's called 'body wraps' for male dogs at most pet supply stores, just measure his body and use the appropriate one.
