英文文法問題----the

在英文文法上無論人名如John,Zanon, 地方名如Africa, Australia, Hong Kong,
Lantau Island, Hong Kong Disneyland, Ocean Park 等的專有名詞(Proper
Nouns)時,冠詞(Article 如 a, an, the等)也會被省畧掉(omitted)的。
我們又為何在說 the Peak 呢? 其實很簡單, 因它只是太平山,Tai Ping Shan
的最高部份, 如以文法分析the Peak = the peak of Tai Ping Shan,只因 隨着時間過去, 太平山頂, the peak of Tai Ping Shan 逐漸變旅遊點而被簡稱為 the Peak, 所謂身份被 upgraded(提升)由 the peak 變為 the Peak了。

Italy, Japan, Spain, France 等是各自由一個政府管轄的獨立國家, 其本質是專有名詞的國家, 所以不用加冠詞(Article), 你問得好, 那為何美國則要寫作
the USA (the United States of America)呢, 就是根美國本身的歷史有關, 簡單的解釋是美國早期是各個州各自為政, 法律也各自不同,( 到現今此現像尚有些還存在),直至後期全國各州统一後便命名是一個眾多州所聯合成的國家, the
字是指the different states, 所以便一直沿用到現在還是the United States of
America或簡稱 the USA 了。

至於英國亦有類同歷史背境, 因英國並早期不單由英格蘭統治,還有蘇格蘭, 愛爾蘭政府各自為政, 後來統一後三國也不讓其他一國的名字為國家名號, 所以要用the United Kingdom 做國家名字了。其實當立國後在海外尚有其他屬國如澳洲, 新西蘭, 印度等及保護國如馬來西亞, 星加坡及殖民地如香港等,當時英國自稱為 the Great British United Kingdom的, 雖則現今已成為歷史了,但仍沿用the United Kingdom, 即the UK了

答: 一般地方名都不用+the.,因為已用了大寫.
peak 是山頂. 如果說是太平山山頂公園,便要加上the.

2.另外, 點解係the USA, the UK, 但China, Italy, Japan前面又唔洗加the, 點分既呢?
答: 一般國家名不需+the. 但如果是由多個聯邦或很多島嶼組成則要+the,如:

the U.S.A. =the United States of America(亞美尼堅合衆國)
the U.K. = the United Kingdom (英聯邦)
the Philipines 菲律賓(千島之國)

冠詞的省略

1.複數普通名詞用來表示某一類人,物或其總稱
Doctors are needed in many places.
Tigers are a dangerous animal.
2.在表示統稱的物質名詞,抽象名詞或動名詞前
Wood is used to make paper.
I like swimming.
3.在表示人名,頭銜,職務,稱號,地名,國名,城市,街道,語言和字首為Mount的山及大多數湖泊的專有名詞前
規則1:在人名,頭銜,職務,稱號前

規則2:在地名,國名,城市,街道名稱前

在這種用法中家庭成員名稱無論是否在句首,都要大寫

6.在表示學科,遊戲,運動,顏色,三餐等的名詞前如:maths,chess,football,purple,supper
7.在by與名詞連用,表示所乘的交通工具或行進的方式時不用冠詞,如:by plane,by sea,by air
8. 在某些介系詞後名詞前,表示處於某種狀態或從事某種活動的抽象概念時,如:go to school,go to work,at home,in prison,in class
9. 與at,after,before,by,from,till等介系詞連用表示一天中各個時間段時,如:at dawn,before morning,after seven,by noon,from morning till night
10.名詞已有所有格及指示形容詞this,that,these,those,不定形容詞some,any,no,each,every,another,other等修飾時
中文:這位先生和他的家人來自加拿大
(誤)This the gentleman and his the family came from Canada.
(正)This gentleman and his family came from Canada.
11.名詞已有most,last,next,a lot of,a kind of等詞修飾時
中文:許多時間被浪費了
(誤)A lot of the time is wasted.
(正)A lot of time is wasted.
12.統指人類或男女的名詞前
中文:女人和男人平等
(誤)The woman is equal to the man.
(正)Woman is equal to man.

" Peak " is not a place , but " The Peak " is , so " Ocean Park " is a place , a place don't need to add " the " , and " The Peak " is the same . If a place need to add " the " , the second sentence ( I ... Peak ) will be this : " I go to the The Peak "

Question : 請問點解Ocean Park唔洗加the, 但Peak就要加the?

Answer : I go to the Peak . This sentence don't add " the " . Because " the " is follow the " Peak " and the " the " need to change into " The " , not small letter . So , " The Peak " = " 山頂 " but " Peak " = A kind of bird , it is different .
