can a 13 year old be a pedophile?

Ok so I have a best friend, we knew eachother since we were in kindergarden. We play for the same pop warner team, we're in the same classes, and we live on the same street. So he was over Saturday night and we were playing a game our friend made up called "real talk," basically it's like truth or dare w/o the dare. So he asked me a bunch of questions and I answered them honestly. He asked me who I liked, if I ever wet the bed, etc. So anyways, the game was over and he says "can I ask you a question?" i said what? and he said "do you like any boys?" I was like "hahah no do you?" and he basically told me he likes this little Bi-racial kid we call JJ (not gonna say his real name) who plays Jr.Pee Wee. (that's like to divisons down from what we play). After I said WHAT? He acted like he was just joking. Maybe he was but why pick JJ? We dont even know him that well. I cant even sleep, I dont want my best friend to be a perv. Also, tonight after practice we were playing "3 flags up" with some of the Jr.Pee Wee kids who were waiting for rides. 3 flags up is when you stand in a large group and someone throws a high pass into the group. It becomes a free for all. First person in the group to catch the ball 3 times gets to be the thrower. Anyways, When my friend was the thrower, he was being extra nice to JJ, telling him to leave the group so he could throw the ball directly to him. I really dont know what to do should I ask my friend again if he was really joking? I have lots of friends but you know he's my BEST friend i dont want to just ditch him.

Thanks for the answers so far guys. JJ is 8, he just turned 8. I'm not gay or anything but he's noticeablly cute or whatever like all the girls even say it. Thats why I think my friend likes him. You guys dont get it, we were talking about who we like like, like how I like girls. And he said he likes JJ from Jr pee wee. Like it was so random. Then when I noticed he's always being nice to JJ passing him the ball, rooting for him, tonight on water break he even gave JJ half of his powerade. And he doesnt talk to anyother younger kids just JJ. I think he likes him man, thats freaking weird.

Yes, a 13 year old can be a pedophile
From a legal stand point, 4 years age difference constitutes statutory rape

I won't comment on your friend, because I do not know him well enough to judge the situation
if I was you, I'd just keep my ear to the ground and prob let my parents know IF anything seemed fishy
such as, if he spends time alone with the child, then you should def tell an adult, otherwise, just play it by ear

People are forgetting the defintion of a pedophile. A pedophile is an adult who a) sexual molests/rapes minors (kids 0-16) or b) has sexual urges for children. This guy is still a child himself, so no it's impossible to label him a pedophile. Also you failed to describe how young "JJ" is, that would help knowing his age. Also all of your behaviours you've listed that your friend is doing, aren't sexual. I think your friend is struggling with his sexuality identity, and it sounds like he has a crush on "JJ". These are warning signs that he COULD be a pedophile once he reaches adulthood, but not necessairly though. I think you need to just take a few steps back here.

In addition to what the first two answerers said, I think it's entirely possible your friend could have a crush. I don't, however, think it's necessary to jump to a pedophile conclusion - especially if you haven't seen anything that is actually dangerous/perverted/etc.

It may seem strange to you but at this point it looks safe. :)

I know mine is not the best answer in the world but what you've said sounds no where near being a pedophile. Being a 13 years old boy he's purely going through the puberty stage, lots of curiosity about will arose.

What you really have to specify here is whether he likes him as in friendship wise or relationship wise. Sometimes being best friend is easily to tell them what's right and what's wrong.

your probably just overreacting. it does sound a little gross, but maybe he just has a brotherly-like fondness for the kid, and was just kidding around, and thats the first name he thought of. i might be wrong, but don't come to any conclusions until you know everything
