What's the difference between pencil box and pencil case?

A pencil box is a box-shaped container that can be made of hard plastic or paperboard/cardboard & can often resemble a cigar box. A pencil case is a soft-material case that takes up less space. I have always like pencil boxes because they're less likely to break off the lead of a pencil. (*smiles*)
