點解做benedict's test時要加alkaline?

For me, my school does not require me to add NaOH to the Benedict's solution.
Besides, the Benedict's solution has already contain NaOH, that's why we just put it into the boiling water path but not boiling the solution. (Hot NaOH is very corrosive)
