B). They speak a related East Slavic language called Ukrainian. Ukrainian was a popular language in the Soviet Union, but around 1933 Russian officials wanted Russian to be taught in Ukrainian schools and spoken instead of the native language.

B, but it needs clarification.

"Official language" isn't a designation used in the Ukraine. Ukrainian is the state language, but Russian and other minority languages have guaranteed constitutional protection (see Wikipedia: Russian language in Ukrainian politics http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russian_language_in_Ukraine#Russian_language_in_Ukrainian_politics ).

false obviously, ukranian is the official language of ukraine. though Russian and Crimean Tatar are recognised regional languages :)
