the amount of heat H( in joules) required the convert one gram of water into vapor
is linearly related to the temperature T (in °C) of the atmosphere. At 10 °C this conversion requires 2480 jules, and each increase in temerature of 15 °C lowers the amount of heat needed by 40 joules. EXpress H in terms of T.

Since H is linearly related to T, so let H = aT + b.
When T = 10, H = 2480
2480 = 10a + b ......................(1)
dH/dT = a ( Or delta H/delta T = a)
Now when delta T = 15, delta H = - 40
so a = -40/15 = - 8/3
Sub. into (1)
2480 = 10(-8/3) + b
7440 = - 80 + 3b, b = 7520/3
so H = - 8T/3 + 7520/3 = (7520 - 8T)/3.
