Is this a good first-date idea?

I met a girl at a wedding this weekend and got her number. She seemed interested and agreed to go on a date with me. I'll be calling her tomorrow to set up a time and place. The problem is that I REALLY like this girl. She is beautiful and I really felt that "spark" when we talked. I wan't to make sure I make a good impression on the first date.
I have a fun date idea but I'm not sure if is the best decision for the very first date. Here it is:
We both have dogs that are an important part of our lives. I thought I would meet her at a local dog park where our dogs could play. I wanted to bring Thai food and thought we could have a picnic. Is this a decent idea or is a picnic a little too romantic on the first date? Thanks for all your input.

Eh, I'd say it's a matter of personal opinion. I think it's a really sweet idea. (no homo)
However, I personally would consider it 3rd date + material. Your call bro. Best wishes to you.

I think that is an awesome idea. Minus the picnic. Go for ice cream after if all is going well.

I think a picnic is too much for a first date.

For a first date, keep it simple and easy. You just want to get to know each other.

Dinner and a movie. I know it's old fashion, but it works for me.

Your idea would be good for a second date.

well if she really REALLY loves dogs then it would be a really good idea
and why the thought of thai food? if she likes thai food then it's fine but er... well u have to make sure she likes it..
no picnic wont be too much but try not to make it so cheesy

I'd be careful with Thai food, it can get spicy. You may like the taste of it, but things can go horribly wrong with spicy. She may not like it, or your or her stomach may have trouble that day with it (and the subequent problems are anything but romantic).

I think the idea itself is great, but I would suggest simply going with a less risky food. Perhaps just some sandwiches (PB&J, ham, BLT, etc.), maybe some fried or grilled chicken (be careful with overly greasy chicken), or maybe something simple like a combination of cut up fruits and cheese (like mozarella slices).

I think it's a really cute idea--but maybe Chinese take out instead. To make it a little less romantic for a first date, maybe just eating take out with chopsticks from the box. But it depends on what she likes
