amazed 與 surprised 有什麼分別?

兩個意思是不同的。

amazed的中文意思是讚嘆或超過想像的不可思議。

surprised的中文意思是意料之外或被(嚇)驚。

有時翻譯上不加思索兩個都譯成「驚奇」/「驚嘆」是不太好的。

簡單分別是如果那事不是突發或是在正常事件中出現「奇特」和「超然」的表現，便會用amazed；當那事是突發或不是預計正常範圍中出現「奇蹟」或「令人難以理解」，便用surprised.

SURPRISED: having the feeling you get when something happens that you did not expect.

e.g. I was surprised to see her again so soon.
       I am really surprised that he remembered my birthday.
 
 
AMAZED [not before a noun]: extremely surprised, especially by something good or by something that seems hard to believe.

e.g. I am amazed that he survived.
      We were absolutely amazed at his rapid recovery.

He is amazed to see his friend from Canada sitting in his office. = surprised with joy too

He is surprised to see his friend from Canada sitting in his office = percentage of joy is less.
