The better and more respected English programs for journalism in Canada are at Carleton University in Ottawa and Ryerson University in Toronto.
The first degree awarded at Carleton was in journalism and that program has been a major focus of the school ever since. It has about 50 years of experience teaching the subject.
Ryerson has also developed an impressive journalism school though I am less familiar with the program.
University of British Columbia also has (or at least had) a respectable program but not at the same calibre.
Journalism programs at the other schools are inconsistent and often do not last very long.
On that note, both Carleton and Ryerson are competitive because of their reputation and are more difficult to get into.
Carleton accepts about 300 students into its first year but only about 100 students progress to second year.
