"the deal"唔係singular noun 嗎, 點解會跟"were".

Auxiliary verb (助動詞)

"Were"

• used to hypothesize about something that might happen :
if "I" were to lose | if "I" were you.

"I" also is a singular noun. However, "were" can be used to hypothesize things might happen. As the above examples.

It means: .....假設這交易未達成協議.
