English question, please help.?

My mum bought me a pair of jeans.
My mum bought me a pair of pants.

There are a lot of snow outside the window.
There is a lot of snow outside the window

There is a lot of rubbish on the street.
There are a lot of rubbish on the stret.

Which ones are correct? Please clarify your answers or give more examples if you can.

Jeans are only one kind of pants. All jeans are pants, but not all pants are jeans.

"A" lot of snow is singular, so you have to use the singular verb.

"A" lot of rubbish is singular, so you have to use the singular verb.

For the 1st set of sentences, both would be right =]
for the 2nd set: it would be the second one you wrote (There is a lot of snow outside the window
)
For the 3rd set : it would be the 1st set (There is a lot of rubbish on the street.
)

The first two are fine.

"Snow" is a noncount noun, just like "rain," "wind," "hail," and other weather phenomena. So, "there is a lot of snow" is right.

"Rubbish" is also non count and must use a singular verb: There is a lot of rubbish. Rubbish is, trash is, garbage is, etc.

There are many noncount nouns.
