STOP: 0x0000008E This code refvers to a hard-to-detect Rustock.B rootkit (virus).

For Windows XP, turn off System Restore on your C: drive. Restart the computer.
A. Run the Windows Recovery Console off your installation CD.
1. Insert the XP CD. Set boot sequence priority to CD-rom.
2. Restart.
3. Press R to start the Recovery Console at "Welcome to Setup".
4. Select the installation that you want to access from the Recovery Console.
5. Enter the administrator password (if any) or just press Enter.
6. At C:>, type "DISABLE pe386" and enter.
7. Type exit and press Enter to restart.

B. Update the virus definitions of your antivirus program and run a full system scan.
C. Back up the registry before making any changes to it. Be careful, incorrect changes to the registry can result in permanent data loss or system breakdown.
D. Removal the virus off your regsitry.
1. On desktop, click Start > Run.
2, Type regedit.
3. Click OK.
4. In Registry table, follow the following path and delete the subkey:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\pe386
Exit the Registry Editor.

5. Restart your computer.

Suggestion: The procedure above is written for advance computer users. If not confident, upgrade XP with service packs then back up your files whenever you can to a USB drive. Your USB operation might not be normal (see below). Anyway, upgrade then back up and do a fresh XP installation after. This will fix all the problems.

STOP: 0x000000D1 This code tells you to upgrade XP. It refers to USB devices you have plugged into your computer. This problem may occur because the OHCI endpoint is unable to find the transfer descriptor in the list. However, this has been corrected in Windows XP Service Pack 1. Do the service pack upgrades, back up the files then clean the rootkit as above and you'll be fine.
