The tip of each prong of a tuning fork, emitting a sound of wave of frequency 250Hz, has an amplitude of 0.5mm. What is the speed of each tip when its displacement is 0.4 mm?

Angular frequency w = 2.pi.250 rad/s = 1571 rad/swhere pi = 3.14159....
Use equation for speed v = w.[square-root(A^2 - x^2)]
where A is the amplitude of oscillation
x is the displacement
Hence, v = 1571 x square-root[0.5^2 - 0.4^2] mm/s = 471 mm/s = 0.471 m/s
