How can I ask this question correctly?
"Is he a boy or a girl?" or "Is she a boy or a girl?"
How do you normally ask this question, thanks.

Is it a boy or a girl?It's ok to say 'it' if you don't know - I think I've only ever asked this about an unborn baby. Or maybe a pet.

I'd recommend going with "Is that person a boy or girl?" or "Is it a boy or girl?". However, if you have to choose one of the two you mentioned, I guess I'd go with "Is he a boy or girl?".
