Kind of clause and kind of sentence?

1. I know the man who you met yesterday.
"who', a relative pronoun, functions as a subordinating conjunction making the clause "who you met yesterday" a dependent clause, and the sentence a "complex" sentence.

2. I know the man who wears a red shirt.

Refer to sentence 2.
a. What is the function of "who" ?
b. Is "who wears a red shirt" a dependent or independent clause?
c. What kind of sentence is 2.?

"Who you met yesterday" is an adjective clause.

Number two is exactly the same kind of sentence. Both have an independent and a subordinate (dependent) clause. The function of "who" is the same as it is in sentence one. "Who wears a red shirt" is an adjective clause, and that means it's a dependent clause just like the adjective clause in sentence one. Sentence two is a complex sentence because it has a main (independent) clause: "I know the man," and a dependent clause: "who wears a red shirt."

Your teacher (or the book) couldn't have given better instructions or a better explanation.
