to put on hold 則是說讓某人等的意思。一般來說在電話上對話比較常聽到。如：
Joe 打電話到某客服，但是等了很久才接通。對方又要 Joe 等一下。
Joe: I've been holding on the line for 20 minutes already, please don't put me on hold again.
我已經等了二十分鐘了，請別再讓我等。
