masterpiece是傑作，通常會用greatest來形容。意思就是最偉大的傑作

用best反而降低他的格調

我的意見:

It is the best article he has ever made.

我會用完成式寫

It is the greatest masterpiece he has ever done (created, accomplished)..

其實It is his greatest masterpiece ever. 就很夠了....

其實不用想得太複雜，用簡單的字就能清楚的闡釋這一句囉，
如：

It is the best work/masterpiece in his life.

有史以來 : since the beginning [dawn] of history; throughout history:
有史以來最大的洪水 the biggest flood in history
opus:(術藝)作品

This is the best opus through his history.

另一種表達方式:
This is his best opus in his own record. (這是在他自己的記錄中最棒的作品, 跟這是他有史以來最棒的作品意思是一樣的)
