I mean the patrol officers, how useless is our police force when we even have community support officers who cant arrest, let alone armed with anything to protect themselves, to the morons in this country who feel safer with the police unarmed so if you were with an unarmed policeman and a man brandishing a chainsaw came towards you would you feel safer than, what about the unarmed officer who was killed by Raoul Moat? wouldn't he have been better off with a handgun, consider this, every other police force's patrol officers in the world is armed except Britain, this isnt the 18th century anymore when the bobby's only need a truncheon and a notepad. Even the japanese police carry revolvers and yet theres less shootings there. Just because its in your holster doesnt mean they're gonna use it apart from in the most dangerous situations, however the british officer would have to face it unarmed or wait several minutes which he/she doesnt have for armed officers to arrive, is it a thing of trust? dont you trust our police with guns? yet every other police in the world has them apart from maybe the australian aborgine tribal police. What is wrong with the idiots who still prefer them unarmed? maybe in a perfect world we wouldnt need guns or police but we do and as soon as the twits living in never never land realise this, the better

Because they can use their gob.

And they have CS if they need to. That is a non fatal very good piece of equipment! But they are not cocky so therefore not even that has to be used a lot of times!

I see what you are saying. Was the officer not better off having a gun , when shot by Moat. Well not really as it was with total surprise. It doesn't matter if he had a gun or not, does it.

I am proud of the police in this country as they can police without a gun, try that you others! Ha!

The Met is known to be the first and best police in the world. A lot of other countries come to visit with their police and are always impressed.

Japan is the most law abiding country in the world , as they are very peaceful a nation. A gun there is only for extreme circumstances. And lets say in the US , they are taught to shoot to hurt. Not to kill. However this makes their nation weary and feel like they can have a gun, as the nation allowes them to have one, for self protection!!! How crazy is that! Then the message sent out id that if police won't do it , you can do it yourself!

What works in one country does not always work in another country.

Crazy people are everywheree. The more peaceful a nation and police , the better.

All police carry CS spray which is classed as a section 5 firearm, so, technically, all police are armed. The reason why only some police are armed is that they undergo strict psychological tests, and intensive firearms training. Not everyone makes it through. Don't you feel better knowing that only the best are carrying weapons.

for my area the united kingdom police have sufficient armed officers, with a small huge type in each and each tension. i've got confidence that we don't ought to arm greater officers. each and each tension interior England and Wales have Firearms Departments, which function to grant an sufficient reaction to the criminal use of firearms. that's finished by way of having patrolling ARV's (Armed reaction vehicles), available to answer spontaneous incidents. Armed officers additionally habit pre-planned firearms operations to arrest persons, following a danger assessment of the guy. procedures used honestly relies upon on the character of the possibility. at recent the the numbers of firearms officers is sufficient. particular we hear of greater shootings, in spite of the undeniable fact that having greater firearms officers on the streets won't negate this. The shootings will nonetheless ensue. What we do want is effective sentencing to a) Take offenders off the streets for a protracted time and b) deliver out the desirable message to all the different people who carry and use firearms. recent surveys (over some years) by way of the Police Federation have consistently shown that the huge majority of uk officers do no longer want to be armed. Very rarelly do officers come head to head with armed criminals. we can all remember recent incidents the place uk officers have been shot and killed attending incidents. Having a firearm won't inevitably forestall this. on the events that I remember the officers have been responding to incidents the place no firearm became pronounced. On one social gathering the officer became a fireams officer and became shot before he had time to react to the possibility. My very own opinion, is that reaction officers are armed with Taser. those are at present being trialled on non-firearms officers in dissimilar uk forces. the biggest danger to those officers is from edged weapons. with a bit of luck this might endeavour to grant those officers the protection they want and the skill to handle such matters.

The police are overpaid and incopetent ( just my little spelling joke ).

More guns for the police = more deaths of innocent civilians than any nutcases are ever going to kill. The murder 40 innocent civilians every year just driving their cars. How many people would be killed if you gave them all guns?? There'd be a ratio of 10 civilian deaths to every copper shot. Are you saying the life of a policeman is worth 10 times more than that of one of us? Anyone who says the police should be armed is off their heads. Do some research before you shout off your nonsense.

" Officers shooting people appear to do so with impunity. Since 1993, there has been 30 fatal shootings by the Police. No police officer has been successfully prosecuted for any of these fatalities caused by police marksmen. 2,533 individuals, whose names are known, have died since 1969 in the care of the Police, prisons, secure psychiatric units and immigration detention centres. The last time a Police officer was convicted following a death in custody was for assault charges in 1971 for the death of David Oluwale in 1969. "

If the marksmen are such good shots, why didn't they just shoot Moat's shotgun from his hands and then shoot it across the ground in front of him like they do in westerns.
