In this persuasive essay “Cri de Coeur”, Canadian Lieutenant General Romeo Dallaire as the protagonist in this piece, retells his peace keeping journey at Rwanda, Africa in December 1994. He as a commander of UN peacekeeping force in Rwanda strongly believes in peace making. This can be seen by his action and feelings toward this journey. He “cannot help but feel deeply responsible for” (Dallaire, paragraph 1) when he is asked to stop an ethnic conflict in Rwanda. He blames the United Nation countries, like “United States, France and the United Kingdom, who sit back and watched it all happen, who pull their troops or don’t offer any troops in the first place” (Dallaire, paragraph 17) since Rwanda has no economic benefits for them due to its lack of strategic value and oil. After bringing his own troops to Rwanda, he attempts to suicide and blames himself for failing to rescue a five years old boy from the RPF child soldier. His grief and madness toward wars shows that he is a very loving and caring person who tries to bring peace to the world.
