The system of equations is as follows:
b+g=112
g=2b+16
Now we eliminate a variable and solve, like this:
b+(2b+16)=112
3b+16=112
3b=112-16=96
b=96/3=32
g=(2*32)+16=64+16=80
So there are 80 girls and 32 boys.

g=16+2b (1)
g+b=112 (2)
are the two eqn's to solve simulataneously.
Sub (1) into (2)
16+2b+b=16+3b=112
3b=96
b=96/3=32
hence, g=112-32=80
thus, no. of girls = 80 and boys = 32

g=16+2b and g+b=112 are the equations
Plug the solution for g into the second equation:
(16+2b)+b=112
Solve for b:
16+3b=112
3b=96
b=32
Plug your value of b back into the solution for g:
g=16+2(32)
Solve for g:
g=16+64
g=80
80 girls play sports at the high school.
