Hi there, I just rented an apt in the Rosslyn area. What are some inexpensive internet service providers in the area? Thanks

When looking at Internet Service Providers you have several options in Arlington:

1. Comcast - you can bundle your phone, Internet and television service through their cable service. In addition, if you do not want a landline phone - you can get just high speed Internet for $19.99. (http://www.comcast.com/default.cspx)

2. Verizon - you can get DSL or FIOS from them. FIOS will not be cheap. The start Internet service from Verizon (DSL) is $19.99. (http://www22.verizon.com/Residential/internet/).

3. NetZero - offers dialup service for $14.99 (http://www.netzero.net/)

4. Cricket - offers mobile broadband as low as $40 a month. While not the "cheapest" this might work for someone with a laptop to be fully mobile. (http://www.mycricket.com/broadband)

5. Cosi - if you don't really need it at your home; and you have a laptop you can go to Cosi at 1801 North Lynn Street and use their free WiFi. (http://www.getcosi.com/)

I am not an expert at all with computers but it sounds like you need to delete things on your computer that you don't need or use to speed it up.The files etc. need to be cleaned up. Our son in Las Vegas has Cox cable, pays around $110. a month for internet and cable tv, not even prime stations like HBO. He cut out the land line phone service because it was even more expensive with that. When we were visiting him we used WiFi because we were using 3 computers and he only had one cable line in the house. It is best to use the cable directly if you can other wise people can pick up the signal and that may slow you down as well. Here in Hungary we have cable tv, land line phone and high speed internet for $50. a month.Only have one cable line in our tiny flat so I use WiFi as were usually have 2 computers on at once. My husband only uses the direct cable if he is doing any business online, more secure that way. It is expensive here but we need it, $50. is about equal to $100. in US buying power. We have to pay around 50 cents per call even with the cable service when we use our land line phone, keeps us from talking too much on the phone that's for sure! We also have to pay extra to check our messages with the phone. I think you have an ok deal price wise. Sometimes in Vegas the signal would get messed up, Cox cable said we lived too far out from the transformers or some other silly excuse, I think someone was riding on us when we used the WiFi which slowed us down. I have an older computer and I was always getting a slow start up while the new and much cleaner computer was working fine. Need to clean up your files and delete stuff you don't need. You can call up your server and ask them some questions if a clean up doesn't work, ask them to cut you a better deal. When we lived in the US we used a pay as you go phone, we don't talk on the phone much at all , some months we never even made one call. It was cheaper for us to just pay 20 bucks once ever 3 months for a new phone card.
