She is right in that not many chinese are working as lawyers in the UK but most chinese who do law will go back to their countries to practice (M'sia, s'pore, HK etc.) There are in fact many chinese students doing law in the UK. If your English is good then law is a good choice. If you want to be a solicitor or barristor, the lpc/bvc has to be done in a prestigious college. A good example is College of Law in London (ask around and you will know the big firms only like graduates from this college), don't do it in places like Metropolitan or South Bank or Greenwich etc. Even if you don't want to be a lawyer, llb is a good qualification to start with somethign else. It gives you the intellectual training that are invaluable.
If you plan to work in HK, then it's even better/easier. Pcll is the equalivalence of lpc in HK.
btw, I presume you have putonghua ability? that would be important if you want to practice law in the UK.
