Consider the reaction aA → Products.
[A]0 = 5.0 M and k = 1.0 x 10–2 (assume the units
are appropriate for each case). Calculate [A] after
30.0 seconds have passed, assuming the
reaction is:
a) Zero order ans:4.7 M
b) First order ans:3.7 M
c) Second order ans:2.0 M

a) Zero order reaction:
Rate law: -d[A]/dt = k
Integrated rate law: [A] = [A]o - kt
[A] = 5 - (1.0 x 10^-2) x 30 = 4.7 M

b) First order reaction:
Rate law: -d[A]/dt = k[A]
Integrated rate law: [A] = [A]oe^kt
[A] = 5 x e^[(1.0 x 10^-2) x 30] = 3.7 M

c) Second order reaction:
Rate law = -d[A]/dt = k[A]^2
Integrated rate law: 1/[A] = kt + 1/[A]o
1/[A] = [(1.0 x 10^-2) x 30] + (1/5)
1/[A] = 0.5
[A] = 2.0 M
