A bus leaves Brooklyn traveling for New Rochelle at a rate of 48 mph. Thirty minutes later, a second bus follows, traveling at 54 mph. How long will it take the second bus to overtake the first?

48t = 54(t - 0.5)
48t = 54t - 27

Each bus will have traveled a total distance of 216 miles when they will be in the same spot.
Distance = Rate x Time.
1st bus D = 48 x T
2nd bus D2 = 24 + 54 T; 30 minutes later 1st bus had traveled 24 miles already. So,
48 T = 24 + 54 T
T = 4 hours.; Answer is 4 hours after the 2nd bus started.
