After processing, the ratio of dollars to kg of steel = $2/kg + 2249.52/x. After processing, the dollar value is 10,838.52 and the amount of steel is x - 25. Therefore,
10838.52/(x - 25) = 2 + 2249.52/x
10838.52 = (2 + 2249.52/x)(x - 25)
10838.52 = 2x - 50 + 2249.52 - 56238/x
8639 = 2x - 56238/x
8639x = 2x^2 - 56238
0 = 2x^2 - 8639x - 56238
x = (8639 +/- √((-8639)^2 - 4(2)(-56238)))/2(2)
x = (8639 + 8665)/4 or x = (8639 - 8665)/4
x = 4326 or x = -26/4
A negative mass of steel makes no sense so discard x = -26/4
x = 4326kg = original mass of steel
Original cost = 2249.52/4326 = $0.52/kg.

let u be the cost per kilo

x=2249.52/u
u=2249.52/x

(x-25)(u+2)=10838.52

Substitute and solve :)

product mass * profit/kg = sales price - raw material price
(M - 25) * 2 = 10838.52 - 2249.52
M = (10838.52 - 2249.52) / 2 + 25
= 4319.5

original mass of steel = 4319.5kg

cost per kilogram
= 2249.52 / 4319.5
= 0.52078249797430258131728209283482
