Mr. Ng gave his two children money. His daughter received thrice as much as his son. If his daughter bought a toy for $36 and his son received another $18 from his mom, both of the children would have the same amount of money. How much did Mr. Ng give to his son in the beginning?

✔ 最佳答案
let initial daughters money be x and his sons money be y
a.t.q
daughter 3y and sons is y
as we assumed 3y = x

again
x-36=y+18
replacing x
3y-36=y+18
2y=54
y=27
x=3y=81
daughter got $81 and son $ 27

Assume 'thrice' means twice.

2 * S - 36 = S + 18
2S - 36 = S + 18
2S - 36 - S + 36 = S + 18 - S + 36
2S - S = 18 + 36
S = 54

D=3S
D-36=S+18
3S-36=S+18
2S=54
S=son received=$27
D=daghter received=$81
--------------------------------------
Double Check:81-36=27+18=45
God bless you.

You can setup a system of equations:

d=3s
d-36=s+18

3s-36=s+18
2s=54
s=27

So he gave his son 27 dollars originally.

D - 36 = 18 + S

D = 3S

3S - 36 = 18 + S
2S = 54
S = 27

The son received 27 dollars from Mr. Ng. The daughter received 81 dollars.
