That is definitely a liquid-fuelled rocket engine, maybe from an Atlas or Saturn rocket. Looks like they are getting ready to test it.Here you go, it's a Rocketdyne RL-10 engine.

some kind of rocket engine on the left. Not a jet engine.
The thing on the right may be some kind of collector for the fumes from the rocket.
The box on the floor is an oscilloscope.

It looks like an early version jet turbine engine.
